Despite elevated gasoline prices stemming from tensions including the war in Iran and further geopolitical tensions, the US restaurant and foodservice industry expects consumer demand to remain resilient through the 2026 FIFA Football World Cup, according to Dr. Chad Moutray, Chief Economist of the National Restaurant Association.
In an interview with Expana, Dr. Moutray explained that this outlook reflects a broader consumer behavior pattern where dining out has maintained its status as a priority spending category even as households navigate financial pressures.
Sysco to Acquire Jetro Restaurant Depot for $29.1 Billion
Sysco, the largest broadline food distributor in the US, has agreed to acquire Jetro Restaurant Depot, a leading cash-and-carry food wholesaler, for $29.1 billion, a deal the companies described as "transformative" for both organizations.
The March 30 announcement will see Sysco enter the "high-margin, growing, and resilient" cash-and-carry sector, creating a combined entity with nearly $100 billion in annual revenue and significant expansion opportunities.

Full-service restaurants are hoping to make a comeback in 2025, thanks to menu updates and operational improvements, according to Chatmeter’s latest Full-Service Reputation Ranking Report.
