CFIA Cancels Three Safe Food for Canadians Licences

After a thorough and comprehensive review, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) cancelled three Safe Food for Canadian licences. The decision was made after the Agency identified during a food safety investigation that they had received false or misleading information from the licence holders concerning E. coli lab results.

Effective immediately, Ryding-Regency Meat Packers LTD., Canadian Select Meats Inc. (operating under St. Ann's Foods Inc) and The Beef Boutique LTD. (operating under St. Ann's Foods Inc) are no longer able to slaughter food animals or prepare meat products for export or to be sent from one province or territory to another.

CFIA Suspends Meat Company's License 

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) licence #3WYHVFPD (Est. 99) of Ryding-Regency Meat Packers LTD. (also doing business as Tri-Pet Holdings Incorporated), a beef slaughter and processing establishment located in Toronto, Ontario, effective September 17, 2019.

While the suspension is in effect, the licence holder may not conduct any activity for which SFC licence # 3WYHVFPD was issued.

CFIA suspended the licence # 3WYHVFPD because Ryding-Regency Meat Packers LTD. failed to implement effective control measures in accordance with Part 4 of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR).

Canada, US Agree on Safe Trade Zones in Event of African Swine Fever Outbreak

Today, Canada's Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO), Dr. Jaspinder Komal, working in collaboration with the United States' CVO, Dr. Jack Shere, issued the following statement:

We are pleased to announce that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) have agreed to allow safe trade to continue in the event African swine fever (ASF) is reported in either country.
