ANALYSIS: Newcastle Disease Re-Emerges in Germany After Nearly 30 Years
Newcastle disease (ND) has re-emerged in Germany after an interval of nearly three decades, with the first outbreaks reported in mid-February 2026. As of March 4, a total of 10 cases have been confirmed.
According to German media reports, the initial outbreak occurred in the Oder-Spree district of Brandenburg, near the Polish border, affecting a flock of approximately 23,000 slaughter turkeys. Subsequent outbreaks were reported on February 27, including cases on a farm with nearly 40,000 laying hens in the Erding district and in a flock of 30,000 broiler chickens in the Mühldorf district, Bavaria...
