President Donald Trump's plan to quadruple the number of imported cattle cuts from Argentina will destabilize domestic beef production without lowering consumer prices, Wisconsin cattle ranchers and national advocacy groups say.
Argentina accounts for 2.1% of U.S. beef imports and can ship up to 20,000 metric tons a year at a lower tariff rate, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Any amount above that is subject to a 26.4% tariff.
