US genetics improve calf growth rates
A central Victorian beef farm has increased calf growth rates by up to 25 per cent by infusing US genetics into its herd, moving from autumn to spring calving and creep grazing calves on summer crops.
The positive results have come alongside a change in the operation's cow model from larger cows to medium-framed females, meaning 10pc more breeders can be carried on the same land area.
