Poultry Companies Launch Appeals After Illinois River Pollution Ruling
Six poultry companies involved in the long-running Illinois River pollution case have appealed a local judge's decision to the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver.
On Jan. 2, federal appeals were launched by Tyson Foods, Peterson Farms, Cargill, Cal-Maine Foods, Simmons Foods and George's. They have initiated the process but have yet to file any arguments.
In December, a Tulsa-based federal judge overseeing the 20-year-old lawsuit ordered that major poultry corporations be held financially responsible for phosphorus pollution in the Illinois River watershed.
The Illinois River is located in eastern Oklahoma.
