Brazil’s Farm Exports to The US Slump 40% In September

Brazil’s agribusiness shipments to the United States fell 39.8% in September to $672.18 million, marking a sharp, one-month break in one of the hemisphere’s busiest food trade lanes.

America’s share of Brazil’s farm exports dropped to 4.5% from 7.9% a year earlier—evidence that buyers and sellers pulled back fast once costs and uncertainty rose.

The pain wasn’t even. Orange juice was largely spared. But flagship categories—pulp, green coffee, beef, and bovine tallow—took the hit...

The Retail Rundown: Retail Promotions Pivot Toward Baking and Comfort Foods

By mid-October, grocery retailers are shifting their marketing focus toward fall comfort meals, baking, and holiday preparation.

In the shell egg market, Expana reports a mixed retail landscape—some retailers are seeing stronger demand as cooler weather sets in, while others note slower movement following lackluster promotional outcomes...

Navigating the Trump Tariff Turbulence: A Comprehensive Timeline

ANALYSIS: Turkey Processing Hits New Seasonal Low as Prices Soar to Record Highs

In June and July, the turkey industry had a couple of months of relief from the seasonal all-time low numbers of turkeys being processed since August of last year. This isn’t necessarily surprising considering that four months prior, net poult placements were 3.9% lower year-over-year (YOY). Additionally, just over 55,000 turkeys were lost at the end of August...

ANALYSIS: Rising Demand for Protein Supports Turkey Sales Even as Prices Remain Elevated

It has been suggested that the increasing beef prices could drive up sales of similar items such as turkey and chicken lunchmeat, as well as ground items. However, there’s also been concern that the all-time high prices of turkey breast meat could squash consumer demand. Interestingly, if we look at a comparison of turkey and beef in terms of fresh packaged lunchmeat and ground, we see that they are performing similarly robustly at the retail counter. While it does not appear that turkey is replacing beef in these sectors, the phrase “a rising tide floats all boats” does seem to apply...

Elliot Holgate, Expana’s market reporter for Feed Additives - Latin America, and Kevin Bull, Expana’s senior forecast analyst, teamed up at Agri-Food Americas 2025 today to outline the regional and global drivers behind key feed additives. Holgate provided a snapshot of some industry amino acid and vitamin market dynamics, while Bull gave a glimpse of the price forecasting capacity Exapana now provides for methionine and vitamin E.

Holgate demonstrated the highly concentrated nature of lysine production, noting that three producers account for more than one-third of global capacity and 76% of lysine capacity is located in China. “Capacity has grown 74% between 2019 and 2024, but consumption has declined by 2%. Chinese lysine production and capacity increases far outweigh global consumption growth and this has resulted in anti-dumping investigations in the EU, Brazil and US," he said, adding that since anti-dumping duties were implemented earlier this year in Europe, Chinese FOB prices in Europe dropped.
