ANALYSIS: Mexico Resumes Cattle Exports as Screwworm Cases Edge Lower
Mexico resumed live cattle exports to the US through the Agua Prieta–Douglas port of entry on August 24, after more than a year of suspended operations. Approximately 750 cattle were presented for inspection on the first day, with 719 crossing into Arizona. Local reports indicate that daily capacity could gradually increase from approximately 700–750 head to 1,200–1,300, though any adjustment will remain contingent on sanitary conditions and USDA's ongoing risk assessment.
