ANALYSIS: Heavier Broilers Lead Production Uptrend
Through the week ending May 2nd, U.S. broiler production continues to run comfortably ahead of prior-year levels, with total young chicken head slaughter reaching 3.05 billion head year-to-date, up 3.10% when compared to the same period in 2025. Beneath the surface, however, the production landscape is more layered, as industry growth remains heavily centered around the larger bird categories while smaller birds steadily lose ground.
