ANALYSIS: Lower Slaughter Pulls Australia’s 2025 Lamb Production 5.2% Below Year Ago
Australia’s 2025 total lamb production retreated from 2024’s all-time high, totaling 597,068 metric tons (MT), according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
Driven by its reduced flock size and extended dry weather conditions, output slumped by 5.2% year-on-year (YOY) or 32,614 MT.
Production across Victoria (VIC), New South Wales (NSW), Western Australia (WA) , South Australia (SA) recorded slight dips compared to last year with the exception of Tasmania (TAS).
