Avian Flu Decimates Poland’s Laying Hen Stock
Poland’s laying hen population has fallen by about 10% in recent weeks due to avian influenza, the National Chamber of Poultry and Feed Producers, an industry group, said on January 20.
The Polish poultry sector has warned that prolonged outbreaks of avian influenza could have lasting effects on domestic egg production, given the scale of losses among laying hens and the time needed to rebuild production capacity after flocks are culled.
Poland is the EU’s largest egg producer and the bloc’s second-largest exporter.
