Cows Bred to Combat Viruses
A southern Ontario agricultural researcher is being credited with helping to reduce the financial burden for dairy farmers by boosting the natural immunity of cows against viruses like avian flu.
Cows that have been bred based on research developed by Ontario Veterinary College professor and pathogen-biologist Bonnie Mallard "grow faster and live longer, saving farmers hundreds of dollars (in care costs) per animal per year," a University of Guelph news release said this week.
