Supermarkets have been accused of duping shoppers into buying European turkeys as a bird flu outbreak wreaks havoc on British farms.
MPs and campaigners said retailers are hiding birds’ country of origin in the small print of labels while continuing to boast that they are supporting British farmers.
Suppliers confirmed that a number of supermarkets were stocking turkey from Poland and other EU countries to combat bird flu-induced supply problems in Britain.
