Store cattle prices have surged in the past month to levels not seen for the past three years.
At both Mount Gambier and Strathalbyn last week, agents quoted rises of 60 to 100 cents a kilogram on steers and even more on heifers compared to the previous markets.
After the mass sell-off of weaner cattle earlier this year, including many spring drops being sold in May and June, due to the drought, there was always going to be a shortage of cattle at some stage...
