Tropical Storm Chantal Disrupts Key Crop Production in North Carolina
Tropical Storm Chantal, the first named storm to make landfall in the US this Atlantic hurricane season, caused significant damage to agricultural operations across the US Southeast. Forming on July 5 approximately 145 miles off the coast of Jacksonville, Florida, Chantal strengthened as it moved northward, making landfall in South Carolina with wind speeds reaching up to 60 mph before weakening over North Carolina.
The storm delivered torrential rainfall across the region, triggering widespread flash flooding and causing significant damage to roads, infrastructure, and agricultural zones.
