Trade upheaval is hurting pork exports. The world's largest meatpacker is betting Americans will eat more U.S.-made sausages.
Brazil's JBS plans to build a $135 million plant in Perry, Iowa, big enough to make 130 million pounds of sausages a year. About 30% of U.S.-produced pork is exported, but retaliatory tariffs levied by major markets such as China have made it harder for meat companies to rely on overseas sales.
