Industry Reacts to Final E15 Rule
Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued a final rule to allow consumers uninterrupted access to E15, a fuel blend with 15% ethanol. The announcement follows a public comment period on a proposed rule and in time for the summer season. The rule changes the old limitations on year-round E15, allowing consumers to have access to the clean, lower-cost option at the pump all year. Previously, sales were restricted in a majority of markets from June 1st to September 15th. President Trump fulfilled the commitment he made to rural voters and is a huge win for farmers.
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue stated that, "I appreciate President Trump’s steadfast support for our patriotic farmers and for his commitment to expand the sale of E15 and unleash the full potential of American innovation and ingenuity as we continue to demonstrate our rightful place as the world’s leader in agricultural and energy production." Perdue explained that the move to approve the year-round use of E15 in time for the summer driving season provides consumers with...
NCC Says E15 Waiver will Harm Chicken Producers; Asks for RFS ‘Off-Ramp’
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in March proposed regulatory changes to allow gasoline blended with up to 15 percent ethanol (E15) to take advantage of the 1-psi Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP) waiver for the summer months that has historically been applied only to E10.
“As corn users, our industry faces potential impact by changes in biofuels policy such as modifying the volatility requirements for E15 fuel blends during the summer season,” said NCC President Mike Brown in new comments filed today.
In previous comments submitted regarding the proposed 2019 required volume obligations (Docket ID No. EPA–HQ–OAR–2018–0167), the National Chicken Council (NCC) expressed concern that such an action, as anticipated at the time...
Farm, Ethanol Groups Urge President Trump to Restore Integrity to RFS, Allow Year-Round E15 Sales
In a letter to President Trump on Wednesday, the American Farm Bureau Federation, National Corn Growers Association, National Farmers Union, National Sorghum Producers, American Coalition for Ethanol, Growth Energy, and Renewable Fuels Association urged the administration to act immediately to restore the integrity of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and allow year-round sales of E15 and other mid-level ethanol blends. The groups also expressed concern that any benefit from year-round E15 sales and proper implementation of the RFS could be nullified if refiners are given further regulatory bailouts that undercut the spirit and intent of the law.
The letter follows comments made by Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue on Aug. 29 that an announcement on the ...
