This Week in Retail: Ad Rundown for Labor Day
Labor Day weekend is here, and the retail segment is offering up features prime for grilling.
Beef leads the protein pack with 26.5 percent of total feature volume, followed by seafood with 25.8 percent. Chicken beats out pork for the third spot, with 20.9 percent. Pork claimed 19.8 percent.
In the beef complex, 80 percent lean ground beef is on feature for an average $3.16 per pound, which down from $3.77 per pound last year. Top round London Broil, a popular grilling item, is featured at $4.54 per pound, over a dollar more per pound compared to a year ago. Ad prices in the steak complex overall average nearly on par with last year at this time. Lower YOY features are seen on boneless strip steaks at $8.28 per pound, porterhouse at $7.47, top round at $4.20, and top sirloin steaks at $5.18 per pound.
